Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need a special license to provide the skin art service?
A: No, you don't. It is for everybody who loves unique looks and try different things. Although most of our current clients are beauty industry professionals, anyone can do this.

Q: How about the design templates? Do I have to use Rainbow Skin Art's designs or can I create my own?
A: We provide design template book for those who purchase Professional or Junior Kits and a few design template pages for Starter and Mini Kit customers. The real beauty of this skin art system is that you can create your own designs - by drawing them yourself (with non-permanent writing tools) or download and print any type of artwork from the internet.

Q: What is the training procedure and how much does it cost?
A: Because this is so easy to learn and use, there is no formal "training" with this skin art system. Most people learn how to apply skin art simply by looking at how we do them. Our instructional DVD which comes with Professional, Junior or Starter Kit is about 10 minutes long, and that is enough to get you ready. There is no extra training cost associated with it.

The ease of use does NOT mean, however, that you can only create simplest of artworks. The artworks can be as complex and intricate as you want them to be.

Q: How long will the kit last?
A: One bottle of glitter can do about 200 standard size skin arts. A professional kit comes with 40 colors, so mathematically you can do about 8000 skin arts with a professional kit. If you do 5 skin arts per day 7 days a week, that's more than 4 years worth of glitter. You will need to purchase the glue (thin brush & thick brush) from time to time. Under the assumption that you do 5 skin arts per day, each bottle of glue will last about 3 months. Also, transfer liquids have to be replenished every few months, but the cost isn't significant.

Q: I downloaded some artworks from the internet and want to print them out for skin art purposes. Do I have to use any special paper or special ink toner?
A: This is a great question. You do not need special paper. Any white paper - regardless of weight and brightness - will do. However, the following point is very important. When you print the artworks on your home printer, or make copies on a Xerox machine, please make sure you are using LASER printer or LASER copier. Base artworks from inkjet printers or copiers do not transfer on to skin.

Q: I just purchased the kit and watched the DVD. Are there any special techniques for creating skin art that's not shown in DVD?
A: The best way is to practice, practice, practice. Once you do a few, you will feel very comfortable doing skin arts. Using different shades of the similar colors, you can create gradient looks to your skin arts, which work wonderfully on skin arts. When working with gradients, use darker shades on the outside and gradually work in lighter shades as you get into the center. Use borders (with Black or Navy) to well-define your artwork and fill in with lighter color glitter. Certain lighter colors such as bright yellow or white do not show very well against light-toned skin and vice versa, unless contrasts or borders are used. Always be cognizant of that fact.

Q: What are the glitters made of and what do they feel like?
A: The glitter (powders) is made of ultra fine polyester. In every sense of the word, the glitter is in "powder" form, meaning that they are very very fine - the texture and size of each grain equaling that of flour. The glitters are virtually weightless and when you wear them, it doesn't feel like you're wearing any skin art.

The skin adhesive is an acrylic copolymer emulsion designed for use in PSA applications. Translated in English, it is made up of material used in medical field and it's been FDA approved for skin usage. It is VCRP registered for Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Q: I have sensitive skin. Will I develop any reactions?
A: In short, most likely not. We, as importer and marketer of Rainbow Skin Art, have done tens of thousands of skin arts with the manufacturer and we have seen a total of 5 or 7 people develop "irritations." By irritations, we mean a bit of redness and itchiness among people with the most sensitive skin conditions. And even for those people, the irritations faded away within minutes. We haven't been told of any reactions from our customers who have purchased our product either.

Q: Can we put skin art on any part of the body, including face?
A: Theoretically yes. But we usually tell our clients to stay away from the eye area. After all, we are dealing with fine particles of glitter and they can and do fall off little by little as each day passes by. Those particles can cause obvious irritations if they get into the eye. However, if you want to use the skin art as part of a special eye make-up for some special event (ie. fashion shows and etc.) and plan on removing them after a few hours, you are more than welcome to use our system.

Q: Is this really water-resistant? Can I take showers without having to worry about it?
A: It's really water-resistant. You can take showers or go swimming or exercise and sweat. But!! There is ONE thing you have to be careful about. When you are in the shower or drying yourself off after taking a shower, do NOT scrub against it. That's how it comes off. So, when you're drying yourself with a towel, just dab at the area of skin art lightly. That's about it when it comes to taking care of your skin arts. Try to stay away from scratching or scrubbing against it.

Q: Then, how do you remove it?
A: Soak the area with a wet towel for a minute and scrub it off with your fingers. No special tools necessary. If you want to remove it, do it in the shower. It's the easiest way.

Q: You claim that these skin arts stay on for 7 to 14 days. Do they come off naturally or do you have to take them off artificially?
A: We use medical grade skin glue and ultra fine glitter powder. What that means is, the glitter powder grains will come off little by little. For the first few days, you won't even be able to notice but after 4 or 5 days, you will start noticing tiny portions of glitter powder have fallen off. When we say the skin arts last 7 to 14 days, the skin arts take that long to start looking rather unattractive because of the lost portions of glitter. By then, it's probably better to remove it and put on a new one.

The length of the skin arts' life also depends on how well you've put them on. If you use too much or too little skin glue, the glitter will come off sooner than you think. You want to use "appropriate" amount - you will find how much that is by practicing. Or, click here to get a sense of how much. We have seen skin arts lasting more than 5 weeks in good condition.
